Williamsburg Garment Company: The Gold Standard of Denim & Knitwear Alterations

Here’s an inside look at our Greenpoint, Brooklyn studio—home of the USA’s leading denim tailoring and knitwear alteration service. Williamsburg Garment Company is recognized globally for premium-quality alterations on denim jeans, stretch knits, and workwear. Whether you’re hemming heavyweight raw selvedge jeans or shortening Vuori pants, we’re equipped and experienced to deliver professional results that look like they came from the factory.

Stacks of premium denim jeans from various brands, each paired with large industrial thread cones, lined up for chain-stitch hemming on a worktable inside the Williamsburg Garment Company studio, with heavy-duty sewing machines in the background at the Greenpoint, Brooklyn, New York location.

What Makes Us Different?

When it comes to tailoring denim or knit garments, Williamsburg Garment Company separates itself from nearly every other tailoring operation. Most tailors—even those who work with denim—lack the manufacturing experience and industrial equipment necessary to do the job right.

We’re not just tailors; we’re also jeans and knitwear makers. That means we know how to take garments apart and rebuild them to match original factory construction—seams, stitches, bar tacks, thread weight, everything. We’re able to reshape and reassemble clothing so that it fits like it was custom-made for you—with no visible signs that it was ever altered. That’s why we say:

Our alterations don’t look like alterations.

Tailoring Jeans and Knits—The Right Way

From chain-stitch hemming to tapering, waist alterations, shirt hemming, and repairs—our team is trained to handle most fabric types, including thick denim, delicate stretch knits, and premium selvedge. Every machine in our studio is industrial-grade, and our stitch types match those used in denim factories—not what you’ll find in a typical dry cleaner or neighborhood tailor.

Our team includes a mix of young and experienced, talented staff with formal training in fashion design and garment construction, led by renowned denim designer Maurice Malone. Combined, that gives us a deep understanding of both the art and science of tailoring denim and knit garments—whether for everyday wear or high-end collector pieces.

If you’re looking for chain stitch hemming, tapering, denim repair, or knit alterations done the right way, you’re in the right place.
