Sweatshirt Alterations: A Perfect Fit for Every Body

It’s no secret—getting clothing to fit just right can be a real challenge. If you’re tired of bulky, bunched-up sleeves or sweatshirts that hang way too long, you’re not alone. Off-the-rack options rarely deliver a perfect fit, especially for those with unique body proportions. That’s where having sweatshirt alterations done by Williamsburg Garment Company comes in.
Our professional tailoring services are designed to solve those bad-fit issues, giving you clothes that look like they were made for you—without any of the unsightly signs of traditional alterations. Why? Because we use the same industrial machines as the factory. We reconstruct your garment to maintain the original look, feel, and integrity.
Just take a look at this Champion heavyweight sweatshirt. The body was shortened by 2½ inches, and the sleeves by 1½ inches. We started by carefully removing the factory stitching at the rib band seams, then cut away just the right amount of fabric to meet the client’s request. You can see the removed fabric sitting alongside the finished garment in the photo above.
The final step is where expertise makes the difference: reattaching the knit bands to the body and sleeves using a serger, followed by interior coverstitching for a smooth, factory-fresh seam. On the top side, you’ll notice clean double stitch lines flanking the seam—just like you’d see on a brand-new Champion.
For anyone who struggles to get a good fit from store-bought sweatshirts, our alterations open a new world of possibilities. Don’t settle for “almost right.” Get a perfect fit, every time, with Williamsburg Garment Company.
