There are a lot of creative minds out there who have personal visions for their jeans—ideas that aren’t about launching a brand but about owning something unique that feels just right for their style. Some customers are inspired by looks they’ve seen on the street, while others just want to put their own personal stamp on a favorite pair but don’t want their project looking amateur or like a home-sewn experiment.

That’s where we come in. At Williamsburg Garment Company, we help bring those one-of-a-kind ideas to life. If you’re ready to transform your own jeans, use the button below to head straight to our Get Jeans Customized ordering page and start your project.

Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at how we transformed a customer’s request for contrast customized Levi’s jeans into two stylish, professional-quality pairs.

The Customer’s Idea

Two pairs of men's Levi's 510 skinny jeans before alterations and customizing by Williamsburg Garment Company, displayed on a white background.

This particular project started when a customer walked into our Greenpoint studio with an idea. He asked, “Can you switch the parts of two jeans with different colors to make a jean with contrast colors?"

We explained what would have to be done and gave him an estimated price. A few days later, the customer came back with two new pairs of Levi's 510 skinny jeans to begin work.

The Disassembly

make customized two-tone washed jeans, a half leg of Levi’s 510 skinny jeans has been taken apart at the rises for the customizing process at Williamsburg Garment Company to create contrast-color custom jeans.

We started by carefully taking apart the jeans at the front and rear rises, leaving the waistband partially connected on one half of each pair. The next step was removing the rear pockets and coin pockets so they could be reattached to the opposite color panel. Every seam we opened was documented and marked for perfect reassembly.

The Pocket Swap & Paneling

Disassembled contrasting halves of dark and light wash Levi’s jeans, laid out before reassembly for customized jeans project.

We started by carefully taking apart the jeans at the front and rear rises, leaving the waistband partially connected on one half of each pair. The next step was removing the rear pockets and coin pockets so they could be reattached to the opposite color panel. Every seam we opened was documented and marked for perfect reassembly.

Rebuilding the Jeans

Image shows the customized Levi’s jeans during assembly, with the rear rise joined using authentic flat-felled, double-needle chain-stitched seams. The front rise and waistband are partially attached, illustrating Williamsburg Garment Company’s expert Get Jeans Customized process.

With the contrasting pockets in place, we joined the rear rise panels using authentic flat-felled, double-needle chain-stitched seams—just as you’d find on original Levi’s production. The front rise was then reassembled, followed by precisely joining the inseams near the crotch using our off-the-arm flat-felled Union Special machine. This method allows us to keep most of the original leg seams intact, preserving factory durability.

Once the two contrasting halves were united, we reattached the waistband and finished the job by adding new rivets to the coin pocket, and  bar-tacking the belt loops back into place for extra strength. The end result? Two truly unique pairs of Levi’s, each one a seamless mix of light and dark denim, with contrast pockets and panels that look like they came straight off the showroom floor.

The Factory Difference

What sets our work apart isn’t just our willingness to take on creative projects, but our expertise as a real denim manufacturer. Every alteration is handled with an eye for original construction and durability. The goal is always to deliver a finished product that looks factory-made—never like an amateur DIY job.
