Fabric
This jean is woven from 14 oz., 100% cotton denim, dyed with natural indigo. Natural indigo comes from the plant, and it takes to the yarn with some variation, giving the denim added depth and setting it up to fade with real character over time.
Construction
Selvedge denim is woven on a narrower, old-style shuttle looms. The rear pocket corners are reinforced with leather, a detail pulled from vintage workwear jeans that took real stress on the job. The cinch-back strap sits at the center back yoke and cinches with a buckle, built to function the way it did historically.
Fit
This is a straight-leg jean with a classic mid-to-high rise, sized true to Burgus Plus's regular fit. Waist, hip, thigh, knee, and leg opening measurements to be added in the upcoming fit guide.
Wash
Each pair gets a one-wash treatment in Japan — enough to control shrinkage without stripping the rigid character out of the denim. Expect a stiff hand feel and pronounced wrinkling right out of the box; that's the fabric's natural texture, not a flaw. The jeans stay dark and close to raw in appearance.
Heritage
The cinch-back waist predates belt loops by decades. Burgus Plus, based in Japan, has built a reputation on reproducing historical American denim details with real accuracy, and this jean is a direct reference to that early construction era.
How It Wears
Natural indigo denim develops texture and irregularity in its fading, since the dye sits on the yarn with some natural variation from the start. Expect fading at stress points — behind the knees, at the top block, along the fly — with a warm, rich tone to the color as it develops.
