Gucci Jeans chain-stitch hemmed to the perfect length

By Maurice Malone Published July 28, 2024

We've tailored Gucci jeans and other luxury denim before, but this pair left a lasting impression. Despite a few typical designer-does-denim flaws, these jeans felt exactly as they should.

The owner of these Gucci selvedge jeans knew a bit about denim. They made the smart move by sending them to denim experts for chain-stitch hemming instead of a traditional tailor.

The hem was originally sewn with a common lock-stitch, a definite no-no for denim enthusiasts. But, as expected, these jeans were made by designers more familiar with fine tailoring than denim. It's like mixing oil and water—they just don't blend.

The original lock-stitched thread color was a golden tan, but we decided to elevate the look by matching the chain stitch color to the contrast pale yellow thread around the pockets. Now, the jeans not only look but also feel like high-end quality denim should.

After all, why roll your hem to show off your Gucci logo selvedge if the hem looks like it was done at the cleaners or by a suit tailor? These jeans are meant to be traditional-style denim, so it's only right that the hemming is done seriously.
