For many years, custom blue jeans at Williamsburg Garment Company followed a focused and deliberate approach. We specialized in custom-made jeans built from raw denim, along with a narrow range of dark washes used primarily to manage shrinkage. This approach appealed to customers who understood raw denim and wanted to experience how jeans evolve over time.

As more people learn about our American-made custom jeans, the audience has expanded. Many customers are seeking jeans made specifically for their body—something standard sizing simply can’t offer—but not everyone wants to deal with the uncertainty that comes with raw denim.

Raw denim demands patience. Shrinkage, stretch, and long break-in periods are part of the process, and for some customers, that experience feels like unnecessary work. These customers still want the accuracy of custom-made blue jeans, but with the comfort and predictability of traditional store-bought denim: softer from the start, stable in size, and easy to wear without worrying about how the fabric will change.

To meet that need, we’ve expanded our custom denim program to include professionally washed finishes. Every pair of our custom blue jeans is still cut and sewn in Brooklyn, made one at a time from a dedicated custom pattern. After construction, the jeans are sent to a professional denim wash facility in California, where they receive factory-level washing used by premium denim brands.

As a designer who has developed realistic, textured denim wash processes used in factories worldwide, I know what it takes to produce natural-looking results. Strong denim washes come from understanding fabric behavior, garment construction, and restraint in processing. That experience guides how we finish our custom blue jeans, producing denim that looks authentic, feels right, and wears naturally from the first day.

We now offer light stone washes, darker washed finishes, dry-processed looks, and softening treatments for our custom-made blue jeans. These options allow customers to choose how their jeans feel and look immediately, without compromising structure, balance, or durability. The washing process is treated as part of the design, not an afterthought.

The jeans shown here are an example of our custom denim washes, made from 15 oz selvedge denim and finished with a light wash. This is a substantial fabric, not a lightweight denim pushed to look aged. The wash opens up the texture, softens the hand, and creates natural contrast while retaining the weight and longevity expected from premium custom denim.

Ultimately, this expansion broadens what custom blue jeans can be. Customers can now get a made-to-measure fit—proper rise, balanced proportions, and a correct leg shape—paired with the comfort and familiarity of professionally washed denim, all while keeping craftsmanship and production rooted in the USA.
